A very warm welcome to Latrobe Valley U3A's Web Site.  U3A is an acronym for The University of the Third Age.   Although not strictly a University in the accepted sense, we are part of an educational organization which extends to almost every country in the world.  It is a Non-political, Non-religious institution, designed to provide low cost educational opportunities for retired people in a relaxed and informal environment.  Its main purpose is to promote self-help education and practice lifelong learning.  No prior educational qualifications are required – no degrees are awarded

 The 'Third Age' in the title refers to a phase of life. After the first age of dependent childhood and Education comes the second age of independent adulthood in work and home-making, followed by the third age - the age of active retirement

 All tutors and other leaders are volunteers and are generally drawn from the membership.  Members are encouraged to become active participants in the courses they chose.
